All events are cancelled as from March 18 until further notice. This includes the 2020 AGM due to be held on April 27. Intensely regrettable but necessary in view of the virus situation.

Felpham residents crowded together to celebrate at the annual Christmas event on December 6th. As usual, all eyes were on the pupils from Bishop Tufnell, Downview and FCC who sang classic, and some not so classic, carols. Joyce Pritchard, Chairman of FVCS said “mince pies and mulled wine were served to the local community that included teachers and parents of the pupils. The Vicar of St Mary’s, The Reverend John Challis, blessed the tree and after a traditional countdown, the lights were lit by two of the pupils – Paige Burton and Sophie Jakeman".

Great news! The work of FVCS's Friends of Old Rectory Gardens has received justly deserved recognition. Old Rectory Gardens has joined four other open spaces in the Arun District in being awarded a Green Flag for being a 'well managed park and green space and setting the benchmark standard across the UK and around the world.' As well as being beautifuly maintained, the award is also a sign that Old Rectory Gardens boasts the highest possible environmental standards and has excellent visitor facilities.

Through its Conservation and Development Group, the Society is planning to join with local authorities to maintain the footpaths and twittens in the Parish. First, the Society will document every one by putting them onto a definitive map. Then the Society will work with West Sussex County Council, Arun District Council and Felpham Parish Council to make sure that the footpaths are maintained to a high standard. Please note – this does not include footways. A footway is the name given to a path that runs alongside a road – otherwise known as a pavement.

Through its Conservation and Development Group, the Society is planning to document every flint wall in the Parish. Having done that, the purpose - then - is to protect them from destruction. There are many ways in which flint walls can be destroyed – unsympathetic development, carelessness, or wilful destruction by people for whom an ancient flint wall might be an inconvenience. It is not the Society’s intention to rebuild or maintain the flint walls – that is because most (if not all), are in private ownership.
